It wasn't the Irish that further curdled Ambrose's mood, it was the word 'New York'. Ugh, a Northerner, a Northerner. No wonder the foal behaved like such a brute. Naturally, he didn't say anything of this sort; it'd be heaps of trouble for him if the foal suddenly ran off and he found himself having to explain the nature of the situation to Silas. "...Ah'v never been," he said instead, and it was at the tail end of this sentence (with his mouth still open) that Gizmo decided it was a good time to start galloping for town. When minutes later they reached the outskirts of town, the taste of chalk was still in his mouth. This situation couldn't get any more miserable.
"Hey you!" oh fuck. Ambrose immediately looked up to Silas and prayed to any god there was that the pegasus would have mercy on him. Pretending not to hear and picking his pace up to a brisk trot so as to keep up with Ide's dinosaur, figuring that perhaps ducking behind the big animal might do him some good as a latch ditch resort, he found to his massive displeasure that traffic was no obstacle for the barbaric stallion.
Hearing Hindrick's observation, Rey glanced up and stepped carefully over to stand beside the unicorn, raising his good wing to splay his fingers over his eyes, cutting away the glare of the sun. "Just so." he said quietly, tilting his head slightly. In all likelihood it was just some rancher driving his herd into town. It wouldn't be a strange thing to see, especially not when Gwangi was so full of hungry mouths, a business opportunity if there ever was one. Still, Hindrick seemed subtly distressed despite the normalcy of the situation. "Is somethin' worryin' 'ya, 'sah?" he asked, furrowing his brow slightly. For a moment he was concerned that Hindrick's discomfort was drawn from a fault within himself, but he saw the flaws in that theory quickly enough.

Even if Ambrose had stated his discontent about New York, the foal would have ignored it. She spent a majority of her childhood hearing that she was scum and should go back to Ireland, even though she was born here. The Irish were so hated that they often were barred from certain parts of the city. Usually it was shops and jobs. The fact she was being disliked as a northern was new. But she was too excited to even care as Gizmo skidded into town.
A giant cloud of desert dirt covered the ponies, but Ide didn't seem to mind. Gizmo came to a grinding halt just as Henry came stumbling over. The large beast snorted and lowered his head in threat. The little foal gave a whinny hopped off her mount, shaking the dust off in the process. "Hey mis'tah!" the girl called as Henry approached Ambrose and herself, "'Ave ye seen this pony?" She somehow managed to whip the photograph and hold it out for the drunkard to see. For her a drunken pony was a harmless idiot. She grew up around them and so no harm in the angry stallion before her.
Hindrick frowned and looked back to Rey. "I don't know why, but I suddenly feel like something bad is going to happen," he mumbled and walked back down to where they were working. It wasn't but five minutes later when shouts were heard from the street and a ranger flew by. Hindrick looked up, mildly confused. Something was going on in town.

Henry kept heading for his target, a pony on a mission. But suddenly he stopped, distracted by the kid jumping off her mount. "Uhh... yeah, That's the fella up at the mansion..." He said, looking at the photo carefully, he never could turn down a girl in distress. "I could take you there if yer like." he added, glancing over the small pony and noticing with a shock that she had no cutie mark. Well she was a little young for him, he took a moment to feel ashamed of himself then got over it. ----------
"No need Henry." Silas called, landing next to the young pony, "We're taking her there."
"You're with him Silas?" He replied, pointing a hoof at the hiding Ambrose. "That cocksucker..." he stopped, blushing and staring at the foal "Ah... Mean... I apologize fer my language miss.... uhh"

Well, that was it. His only escape was to slink away to the nearby manor and try and find some far away room to lay low in. "Aye, he's staying up in town in that big inn," Ambrose claimed in a wise tone, nodding knowingly. He was hopeful for a moment that this would distract all three other ponies long enough for him to back away into the crowd, but it was no use. As soon as he began to lift a hindleg to backpace, the angry earth pony was gesturing at his face. Oh wonderful. Going silent, he began to make himself appear very innocent and mentally prepared a strategy for escape.
Rey was about to assure Hindrick that nothing bad was going to happen when he heard the sound of wingbeats and looked up to see the silhouette of a ranger circle above. The sight of pony in flight sent an ache up his mangled wing, again he pressed them tighter against his body. The pegasus above circled once, twice, three times, then flew off as suddenly as he came... that made an impression on Reinhardt. The fellow was scouting, and he'd seen something of interest up here on this roof. 'Ah'm not a guilty man,' Reinhardt repeated over and over in his head. What would a ranger want from him? Since he couldn't think of an answer, the next most rational thought was that they were being scouted by some raider who, seeing the state of the house and the fact that there were only two of them (one a cripple), thought them an easy target. 'Fear is the thought-killer,' he reminded himself, reaching calmly around to his hip and pulling his shotgun from his belt. Supporting the stock with his good wing and biting down on the modified grip, he calmly broadened his stance and prepared to fire either up or down depending on who came and from where. "Ah'd stand back," he suggested as calmly as if he were making a statement on the weather.

"Ah've heard worse," The girl whinnied and stowed her picture away. What luck she was having today. Everyone she had asked had seen her father! In Boston only his landlord and some sciencey fellows knew him, but they really didn't tell her anything about him. The foal smiled at all the ponies that had surrounded her. "Thank ye for the help," She gave a smile and a little bow and then looked up at the three, "But 'ah en find 'im mahself. Thank ye again for the help, git Gizmo!"
The foal turned to leave, going in the direction of the mansion where Henry had pointed. Gizmo gave a grunt and turned to follow, his large bulk causing many of the ponies watching the exchange to back away. The girl was far too excited to see if anyone had followed or to even hear if they spoke to her. She supposed the mansion would be the great big house that she saw near the end of the town. So she went towards there. If Hindrick wasn't there, she'd check the inn. If he wasn't at the inn, she'd sit there till he showed up. Ide was determined to meet her father no matter what.
Hindrick leaned over the side of the roof to try to get a look at the chaos, but he was distracted by the cock of a gun before he could get a good look. He blinked and looked over to Reinhardt holding his shotgun. "Rey!" he pounced up form the roof and looked to sky to see what had gotten the piebald so rallied up. That's when he saw the ranger flying by, and starting his descent. Hindrick grumbled something and looked at Rey. "That's a Ranger Rey! He's not after us, now put your gun away before you get us both jailed," The older buck hoped his logic would make Reinhardt stand down. It wasn't spoken angrily, just in surprise.

"Is there a problem Henry?" Silas asked, sounding more exasperated than angry. His friend always seemed to have a grudge against something.
Henry had been meawhile staring at Ambrose and pawing at the ground like he was prepared to barrel him over, he looked somewhat embarrassed for a moment hearing Silas speak. He glared at Ambrose for a second longer before stepping back from the group, he had decided wisely that picking a fight in front of a lawman and a kid was not his best idea.
"I'll see yer later Silas." he mumbled with some annoyance, "ma'am.." he tipped his hat to the girl and swaggered off down the thoroughfare without further incident.
--------------
Silas gave Henry a subtle nod and turned to follow Ide, walking slightly behind Ambrose so that he could keep an eye on everything that was going on.

Ambrose understood for a moment what it was like to be between a rock and a hard place, except it was an angry drunk and the law. Gulping and trying to look totally innocent, he glanced awkwardly between the two and kept an especially careful eye on Henry's aggressive posturing. Then, suddenly, one comment from the ranger and the earth pony was trotting away. It was all he could do not to heave a massive sigh of relief, not wanting to look as if he'd any reason to be excessively nervous. Of course, as soon as one major problem faded away another arose. By the time the earth pony was well out of sight Ide had already gotten on her way. Ambrose jumped a little upon noticing this and trotted after her, making a small noise of objection as he caught up.
"Aye, maybe it was a ranger," Reinhardt answered calmly, keeping his gun readied for the moment. "An' maybe it warn't, how'd one e'er find out from way down here?" he asked without making any move to set his firearm down, Rey shook his head a few times. "N'awh, worst scenario it really is a ranger n' ah put m'gun down real nice an easy." at least, that's what he thought. Here on the edge of Gwangi raids were a definite possibility and a very dangerous one at that. He had no love for a lawman that'd spurn a fellow for moving to defend himself autonomously.
Of course, once he saw that the ponies approaching were a child, a ranger and his brother, he set the rifle down and straightened up a bit, curious. "...What in th'name a..."

Ide only looked back briefly to see the ranger and the blonde pony had followed her. It seemed she would not shake them loose. But she was at the mansion. If she could find her father, they would have to leave her be. it wasn't that she didn't like them, they were terribly nice. But she wasn't a little foal. She had gotten here all by herself, she had buried her mother, she had done all those things and she wasn't going to be treated like child after all that.
Puffing up her chest she looked at the looming mansion. It was in a terrible state, but she could tell there had been recent work on it. That's when she saw two ponies come from around the corner of the house. Suddenly all the doubt she held one her way out here came crashing down on her. Would he father accept her? Would he even remember her mother? Would he even care?
The filly looked down at the dirt, stopping suddenly. She had to do this. She had to just come out and say it. Looking up she trotted over to the pair, noting the differences from how Hindrick looked in his picture and how he looked now. She also noted the strange pattern on Rey's coat, but thought nothing more of it. She stood as tall and proud as she could.
Hindrick at this point was looking around in the most confused state he had ever been in. The buck looked at the youth in front of him, then to Ambrose and the Ranger. He had to admit that there was something about that filly. She looked slightly familiar. No, it couldn't be. Hindrick furrowed his brow as the foal began to speak. That accent and way of speech, no it couldn't be.
"Mistah' Rospev," She began, trying her hardest not to break down, "Ah've come all ta' way from New'Ork ta tell ye sometang." Ide moved over to Gizmo, who was snorting angrily at Rey and Hindrick. She removed something from one of the side pockets and presented it to Hindrick. "It's from me mammy."
The letter was sealed in an envelope with the handwriting Hindrick had known many years ago. He's never forget it. The unicorn took the letter, opened it slowly and scanned it. If a pony could go pale, Hindrick would have as his eyes trailed down the letter. At one point he gulped and looked at Ide. Ide sat there, awaiting judgement, her heart beating a thousand miles an hour, or so she guessed. When Hindrick finished the letter, he promtly shooved it back in and placed it in his coat jacket.
"So you're my-" "Yes." "And Sybil- Your mother is-" "Yes." "You came all the way here from New york?" "Yes." "Good lord... I... need a minute," The pony stared at Ide and sat on his hindquarters. How could this be happening? Why did she never tell him? How could she have hid it from him? He would have done something, helped her, helped them. The dappled buck took a few moments to think before the sudden stress crashed on him and a simply fainted. He fell backwards and landed on his side with a poof of dust.
Ide let out a yell and looked to all three of the adults there. "AH KILT 'IM! 'AH DIDNA MEAN TA," the filly hopped around and rushed towards the fallen pony. Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes. She nudged Hindrick before plopping her hindquarters on the ground and letting out a wail, "Ah dun want ta' be an orphan!"
(( I leave you guys with this, sorry for the lack of interaction with everyone else. D: After this Ide is going to be bugging everyone. ))

"Well Ah take it this is yer father." Silas was satisfied with the interaction between the two ponies. His job was done. "It was a pleasure to meet you Ide, stay out of trouble...." Thump! Suddenly the father was unconcious in the dust, that was unexpected.
Silas hurried over and stared at him, not really sure what to do. But Ambrose was a doctor from his look and his leeches. "Can you do something?" he asked the blonde pony.
